Hard lifestyle for many years. Not sure how much that played into it, though it surely could not have helped. It amazes me how some people live the rocker life and it catches up to them and others seem unfazed. Ditto the opposite, people live a healthy lifestyle and still get cancer, etc.

I'm just surprised he went before Alex...
Alex was the real drinker... Eddie would go to his hotel room and do blow and play... Alex would hit the bar....

They took out part of his tongue a long time ago. He blamed it on a his metal guitar pick he kept holding in his mouth.

From what I'm reading, it spread from his tounge to his throat, further on down, then up to his brain. He'd have to have known for a year that he was going to die. Biggest shame was the he and Sammy were talking again.

Yea... but they weren't talking to put the band back together.... just to mend old wounds.

According to "Breaking the Band", Sammy quit. He walked out in a huff. They had hired a manager that wanted a greatest hits album, including Roth. Sammy was offended by that, He also just had a new kid and wanted to stay home. Don't really know the true reason for Anthony, but I do know it was a huge mistake. Besides, as a live show, they are all in their mid 60's. Eddie straightened himself out and had a good last few years. Sad to see him go so soon, and that way, but Van Halen to me, had a shelf life. They didn't just come out on stage and stand there and play. Alex is also a very under rated drummer who also developed his own sound.

You should read the book "Runnin With The Devil" by Noel Monk... he was with them from the beginning as a road manager, then through the DLR era as the bands manager... here's a quote from the book on what happened to Anthony ( I have the ebook, shoot me your email and I'll send you a copy):
