My local venue, Riverbend Music Center has released a list of bookings for the summer, local radio touting the re-opening from COVID for concerts. In Ohio we now have a 40% capacity allowance. Wonder how turnout out will be for these, I’m betting sold out in no time. We have booked:
Rod Stewart/Cheap Trick Primus Chicago Black Crows Thomas Rhett Chris Stapleton Jimmy Buffett Megadeath Steely Dan Hall n Oates Maroon 5 Doobie Bros.
and a few more like KidzBop n shit.
You guys seeing any action yet

I read that even with capacity reductions, there is fear that there will be too many bands chasing too few ticket dollars this summer. It should be interesting to see how it all shakes out. I won't be surprised if it takes years, if ever, for things to get back to normal.

A quick look at some of these shows prices and all seem to be priced top dollar, and quite a few are resechduled shows that sold tickets last year and people are still holding the tickets they bought last year. Rod Stewart still has the $200,$300,$400, $500 tickets and VIPs for sale.

Even half of that is a stretch for people coming out of a covid unemployment scenario. Add that to movies and sports and there are just too few dollars chasing the tickets. Movies have a much better chance of getting back due to a drastically lower price point. How many 2 hour movies can you go see for a $200? They have the added advantage of replay via streaming, etc. to bring in revenue from the identical product. Sports have tv money to offset ticket losses to some extent. Live music has no fallback. Album sales are dead and streaming pays squat. The money used to be in live performance and now having a strong brand like journey, kiss, acdc, etc. will be more important than ever.

Here's a current list of some of the bands that are scheduled to be back on the road. Some others that aren't. Journey is still in the aren't category. I don't get it. They spent a year working on an album and can't get it out with some dates to support it. Kansas is self managed by their drummer and he's already got them playing in front of people. I get that they are not the same scale as journey, but this is why journey pays a management team. Maybe Arnel can't get out of Manila. ultimateclassicrock.com/concerts-return-2021/

Michael McDonald is back in the Doobies. Not sure how that goes... I like him as an artist in his own right, but wasn't really a fan of that era of the Doobies.

I would pay less to see McDonald era Doobies, didn’t appeal to me at all, still doesn’t.

Includes Pat Simmons, Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, and John McFee. When the whole group has toured in the past together, they do all eras. That would make it worth it to me. All of the hits across all of the eras.

Seeing a new Styx/Night Ranger show in Dayton, Ohio that’s showing as sold out. Fraze Pavilion capacity is 4,300. I don’t know when this was announced, I usually hear about most of the local shows but this one got past me. That’s a bit better bill than Collective Soul. I may have went to this as it’s a Friday in July. Oh well.
Hearing Dennis is going to be playing a makeup show at a fairly close casino in September, it too appears sold out, though it may have been sold out last year, not really sure.
