Just played for the Wife, Isle of Misanthrope, Last Guitar Hero, The Good Old Days, Crash of the Crowns and Abracadabra, she says hands down Abracadabra is her favorite.

One of the great things about the current state of the music industry is that all of these musicians are not under oppressive label contracts like in the 70s and 80s that would have prevented collaboration like this. I could not count the number of times in the old days where I would read about great players wanting to work together, but label contracts would not allow it.

Just ran across this Arnel n Friends Queen cover.. He sounds really good and his range is still there. Amazing what happens when one isn't out shredding their voice every night, especially with Journey stuff. As soon as he gets a few touring dates under his belt, that will change. Father time and wear n tear is always there.

I hear a lot of tension in his voice, which for singing is a killer...
I also hear a distinct timbral change in his voice vs when he first started with Journey. This is thinner, and "airier"... vs the absolute brute power he had originally.... usually a sign of hardening of the vocal folds, which is normal as one ages and/or uses/abuses the voice.
If you listen closely, at 2:14 he's actually straining a bit... you can hear his voice thin as he tightens his vocal chords vs. increasing airflow through them...
None of this is out of character with what one should expect as a result of singing Journey songs for a living...

This, like the DSB Unicef Journey performance, actually features a studio vocal with Arnel just lipping. Alot of zoom performances are like this. That's why it sounds produced instead of raw/live. Great cover tho.

It's pretty obvious he's lip syncing.. and none of my comment refers to the visual of him in this video, but the audio itself. It's why I stated that "I hear a lot of tension...".. "If you listen closely"....

Great cover tho. I am trying to remember, was Captured overdubbed and cleaned up or was it really live? It sounds much more live to me than GHLive did, which I believe Kevin Shirley cleaned up and enhanced digitally before its release. I know that some of the Captured sound probably took out hisses, etc. from the raw tracks, but it just sounds so much better. They certainly didn't have the digital tools that they have now 40 years ago.

My comment IS about the audio. It's why I said "it SOUNDS produced instead of raw/live." Hard to objectively judge vocals when everything is pre-recorded, mixed, etc. - even moreso when recorded from a Manilla broom closet.

Not too many 50+ years old guys running around who can do that. For all he is or isn't, Arnel is a pretty rare talent.
