Contract Terms: 10 yr(s) / $470,000,000 base/$503,000,000 assuming he meets all qualifiers Signing Bonus: $10,000,000 Average Salary: $45,000,000 Guaranteed at Sign: $63,081,905 Total Guaranteed: $141,481,905 So, in reality, only $63,081,905 is guaranteed money... (signing bonus + 2020 salary + 2021 salary + 2021 roster bonus + 2022 salary + 2022 roster bonus) The remaining $78M in guaranteed money is spread over the remaining 11 years.... which he likely won't finish (avg QB career is 4.4 years), and Mahomes has to be on the roster and go through preseason workout to get that remaining $78M. If he gets hurt and misses, he loses out. It's a year-to-year deal starting in 2023.
For comparison.... lets look at how it stacks up vs. Mike Trouts contract:
Contract Terms: 12 yr(s) / $426,000,000 base Signing Bonus: $20,000,000 Average Salary: $37,666,6666 Guaranteed at Sign: $426,500,000 Total Guaranteed: $426,500,000
Trout gets hurt and can't ever play again.... $426,500,000
Mahomes gets hurt and can't ever play again....... $63,081,905
Mahomes should have played baseball.....
Long term, it seems like baseball players have a much longer career span. It seems like the greats I remember as a kid - Mantle, Bench, Joe Foster, Garvey, Brett, etc. all played at a high level well into their 30's. I could be wrong, memory is not as great as it once was. It has to be a much slower and less toll on the body as well. I didn't know Mahomes played baseball but if he was good enough, that might have been a better path. NFL seems to get all the glory, though, which is what so many kids want - the game is the path to money and fame with fame seeming to be as important anymore. I am not sure anyone plays the games for love of it anymore, regardless of sport.

Mahomes father (Patrick Mahomes, Sr.) played in 1992 to 2003 for Twins, Red Sox, Mets, Rangers, Cubs, and Pirates.
Mahomes Jr, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 2014 draft but did not sign.
I crack up when I watch the sports analysts lose their collective minds over his contract... He's guaranteed 63M for the next 2 years... then the rest of his contract is year-to-year. The analysts act like he's getting Trout money when he's getting nothing compared to Trout...
Mahomes has good instincts... he feels pressure and knows when to hit the dirt... but QBs who run even a little bit have way shorter careers than pure pocket passers (think the Mannings or Brady)... and Mahomes likes to scramble and be inventive.. it's part of his game... and it virtually guarantees he won't be long for the league.. hell he was hurt last year because of his scrambling...
Look at Alex Smith, he never scrambled and he got shredded... good HIS contract was guaranteed... he should hang up the cleats... he's lucky to have his leg...
I think he's and Mahomes will likely be injury riddled by year 4.

nope.... I'd bet the 9ers trade their pick to GB for Rogers.... That’s a trip about Rogers. Sounds like he’s pulling a Carson Palmer shit move to get to warmer weather.

I don't blame him.... since taking Rodgers 2005 draft, the Packers haven't drafted a single skill position player in the first round.
GB brought this on themselves...
