This is very personal but I wanted to share. I started playing drums when I was 10. I took lessons, had bands, did some recording, ect. I played for 31 years. I was good enough that when you run accross the usual asshole,"I can play better then you", I could smoke them. Anyway, I started having great pains in my wrists and walked away from it. I left it for 24 years. I have two sons that are both drummers. I found a old Remo practice pad in the basement in early December and piddled around with some two strokes and learned two things. I sucked, and it didn't hurt anymore. I was excited, and pissed at my ability, and called my older son and told him I could play again and was going to practice and work out on this pad. I went down to his house in OKC for Christmas and he showed me my Christmas present. He rescued a 1976 6 ply maple shell Ludwig kit, the same size as my old kit, in Chrome O Wood. He worked on it for weeks, and since I've had it, I've done a little myself. For you drummers, if we have any, It's a 8",10",12", and 13" rack, 14 and 16 " floors, and 24" bass, and my son gave me back my 1968 Rogers Chrome over Brass snare. He also gave me back my Zildjian 20" Dark K Custom Ride, a pair of 13" Paiste Rude Sound Edge hi hats, I bought a Paiste 2002 18" China, and he gave me 15",16"17",18" Paiste 2002 thin crashes. They have perfect pitch. Most of this would have rotted away in a storage locker. I almost cried when I saw it. This weekend he was up here and we both played on it. He smoked my ass. I have found my old teacher from the 90's and a week from Monday will start lessons again. It's coming back quickly, and the crazy thing is, my double bass is alright. I've got a Gibraltar dbl pedal he gave me. I gave him a Tama Iron Cobra 900 last Christmas. As well as he's playing on my old kit I gave him when I quit. This was always a big part of my life. It's a big deal to me. Just thought I'd share.

Well, practice up a few weeks and then put a video of you doing Tom Sawyer up here! You can do it! I could play it in 83. Right now I wrestle with Toto songs, and you can forget Rosanna for a year at least. I am proud that as of last week, I can play Alive Again and We're An American Band, double bass intro's and all. Considering I haven't played for 26 years, I'm proud I've gotten this far. Lessons will be a big help. For those of you that don't play drums, Rosanna is a royal bitch to play the way Porcaro and Phillips played it. Even the drummer on the 40 trips tour couldn't do it. Doing this and watching Trump kick ass has made for a very good week. Music is a big thing for my family. Doing alot of Beatles and Doors. Always loved Densmore.

Good for you man. Music keeps ya young.
That Pocaro shuffle beat is insanely hard...
I went to school for audio engineering, and spent the late 80's fronting my own band... shared the stage with Pat Travers, Steve Earle, The Georgia Satellites, Dickie Betts, The Beat Farmers... and a bunch of others I can't remember lol...
Have a home studio now... Mac Mini, Toontrack drum software, Positive Grid Bias Amp software (really good)... a bunch of 70's and 80's guitars and basses... and a Roland TD10 kit still in boxes...
Someday I'll have a proper studio...

Started lessons with my old teacher. I say old, but he's younger then me. He always had me doing jazz, and it looks like that's where we are headed again. Got my timing back. He was very happy with my double bass. Relearning the proper way to two stroke. Gotta sound perfect.Ect. He told me to bring three things for my first lesson. sticks, cash, and beer. His studio had at least 8 kits in it. He said "just pick out one and lets go. They all had Rims mounts, most were Ludwigs. I saw one Kansas City Drumworks kit. I'll play that next Monday. Those kits were beautiful, built by Gary Boyle and Herb Nester. They haven't been made for 20 plus years. All were hand made in their shop. Everything made the best way possible. I'll snap a pic and post it. Didn't know you were a drummer. Herb Nester was a master at lacquering shells.

Oh I'm no drummer... Mostly a guitarist/bassist... can keep a beat... good at programming.. the TD10 is supposed to be used to interface with my Toontrack Superior Drummer software... I've prolly got 100GB of vintage drum kits in samples... all triggerable via the TD10...
I mostly us Kenny Aronoff MIDI files that I cut up to create drum parts for songs... I love his drumming style..
someday hope to have a space to setup the TD10 and play parts instead of programming them...
Would love to see pics..

Been watching a lot this guys videos... I watch a bunch of Drumio videos on Facebook too. I'm a huge Dave Weckle fan. My teacher has a simular teaching method. He asked me if i wanted to learn anything and I said sure, Rosanna. He spent a week learning it properly, and now he says I'll have it in a month. Some day I'll learn to keep my mouth shut.

I've been listening to a lot of Steely Dan lately... Myu god Steve Gadd... wow.. Bernard Purdie.... I've got the hi hat and snare down so far, now I'm waiting for him to add the bass drum and screw me all up. I don't think I'll tell him the Rosanna is more then just a Purdee shuffle. I'm far from being a Simon Phillips. But it is coming back quickly. I'm being worked right now on doing what I do properly. more of a studio sound. Little things I forgot over the years.

There's a great interview with Pocaro on YouTube about how he came up with the Rosanna shuffle..

Hey Slucero. My youngest son was here last week. I started taking Lessons in March, then of course Covid screwed that up. Anyway, it's been coming back quick, but some things are frustrating. I had my son,32, sit down and play, he's been playing for fun 16 yeras,no lessons, and I smoked his ass. God that felt good. Made me see how far I've come along. No Purdee shuffle yet, though. But I am abble to do some Toto stuff. Picked up some cymbals to add to the kit, Paiste 2002 18" china, 10" splash, and 20" big bell ride. The Zildjian K dry custom was too dry, but I still have it. I'll post a new pic soon. Of course I had to buy a couple of new boom stands too. The power stroke 3 came off the Rogers COB snare, and a control sound went on. Glad I did that.

I bet your playing is going to come back much faster than you think!
