I put on Generations this week for the first time in years. I remember thinking when it came out that it certainly wasn't Perry era good. But I liked it, particularly the first 3 songs. Much like Evolution to me, there are several songs on it that are not what I would pick out individually to play, but I can put the album on and just listen all the way through.
Then, I tried again with Eclipse. I can't even get through one song on Eclipse without hitting next, hoping that it will get better, but it never does for me. I want to like it, but in less than about 3 minutes of pushing the next button through the whole album trying to find a song I can enjoy, I am done. They are very different to me both sonically and in the songs. I don't know that even with a more Escape/Frontiers type of production - which is my preference - the songs were good enough to make it worth listening to again.
Out of the two which do you prefer?

Neither.... Last Journey album I liked was Arrival Arrival was 20 years ago and Trial By Fire was 25 years ago. I remember thinking at the time TBF came out that it felt like it had been a lifetime since Frontiers. Perhaps because I went through college and early adulthood in those years. Now, I have a hard time wrapping my head around Steve A joining more than 20 years ago. Time moves on, but wow so much...

True that man...
Seeing SA front them in 2001... then AP later... pretty much convinced me that SA was the last real front man they had (except the short period with JSS)
