Over the years, a lot of people have hammered Generations for being not a good album in great part due to having every member of the band sing. It has grown on me over the years, though some of the songs are tedious to me much like all of Eclipse. I wondered what people would have through if Augeri had sung all of the songs instead of giving everyone a song or more. Or Perry, or Soto, or Fleischman, or Rolie, or Arnel. Would the same songs, same production have been received better with any of those guys singining them? Each would have brought their own vocal style to it, but would it have been appreciatively any better?

My biggest problem with Generations isn't the songs. Sonically it sucks ass. There are some good songs on it. Arrival is the best Augeri era album, in terms of sound quality.

Generations sounds like it was put together at different times... not recorded all at once...
TBAA is still one of my favorite post-Rolie/Perry era tunes... it encapsulates all the best elements of their songwriting skill, and none of the dirge & pretentiousness of their later stuff... It's a rare throwback rocker that I think could have easily fit in on Escape....

Cain stated in an interview that Neal wasn't around for the album. Neal was mostly involved with Soul Sirkus. I think that is the biggest issue. It's a hodge podge, and it clearly shows. Augeri's two solo songs ("Butterfly" and "Believe") needed a co-write.
