Golden Earring was one of the bands I grew up on and always liked. Unfortunately, Gary Kooymans has ALS and the band has chosen to hang it up. I only now found out.

Mentioned on the Aerosmith thread how bad I thought they were live, but one night in Dayton, Ohio I saw Golden Earring open for Aerosmith and they kicked ass. I believe it was around the time of Twilight Zone. Radar Love was awesome live. Maybe 82 or 83.

Technology had only begun to help close the gap between what could be produced in studio vs. live. Now it seems that enough tech and some guys to run it can hide a lot of poor musicianship. Gotta give it up to the bands who could really make it happen without the tech support back in those days.
