In this new note from DDY he mentions that over his break from performing live he will be finishing up his new album. This is good news. Also, as some of you may know Jim Petetik co-wrote some of the songs for the album. Interestingly, DDY mentions that they shot a video for one of those songs. I'm looking forward to seeing that. Be sure to check out his full post where he discusses the new artists inducted into the R'N'R HOF.

I am very eager to hear the new stuff both him and Peterik have worked on. I imagined that Dennis album was further along, but sounds like it will not be released in the first 1/2 of the year. At least we will hear this one new song probably in the next month for the promotion of the Peterik World Stage Album.

Especially if DDY's new album is anything like OYFN. For fans it's a bit frustrating that DDY doesn't fill you in much during the process. I can remember when the Boomchild album came out. I hadn't heard anything of DDY putting out a new album. I was browsing the record store one day and there it was. Of course this was long before the internet and online forums etc..

At least we hear from Dennis quite a bit from his facebook page, wish he would talk about the new album more. I have found out much more from Jim Peterik lol. Dennis is such a perfectionist with the mixing so that is why I'm thinking its still going to be a long while before this thing comes out. Hopefully he gets a lot accomplished over this 6 week period.

I remember him making comments in the past that he wasn't that interested in doing so. He has put up some great posts on his FB page.

In Dennis' latest FB post he gives an update on his forthcoming album. He says "next year". He wrote the post on Dec. 31st, so I hope he meant 2019 and not 2020. Let's hope it's release is in the early half of this year. On a somber note, he mentions that this will most likely be his last album project. For me this brings in that reality that it is the beginning of the end. Sadly, it's not performing with the band he spent the majority if his career cultivating and bringing us music that is still listened to this day.

He has been active this last week, a bunch of pictures are on Jim Peterik's Facebook page, so hopefully he gets a lot of recording done. I worry that he will take forever mixing the album. I think it's going to be summer at the earliest to be honest. I hope this isn't Dennis' last album. Maybe if it sells well, Frontiers will give him another album deal, it always sounds like Dennis needs a record deal before he will work on anything.

I think he is now in the mixing stage of this project. I say this due an interview Jim Leahey gave earlier this year where he said they were recording at that time. The issue with Frontiers is that a lot of their album deals are one-off deals. Dennis has said that he really does not focus on writing new material if he doesn't have a project going. I too hope it's not his last but that may very well be the case.

Dennis' Reply on Facebook: Unfortunately a recent JY interview had him mentioning once again that he’s not a ballad guy and wished he had been in The Who or Deep Purple. How bout that. I wasn’t aware he didn’t care for Babe, Ho Ho. Though I was always quite aware that he was surprised Lady became a hit and that we went on to such great success. He didn’t believe we had what it took. He had said on Behind the Music and in other interviews that for the first 10 yeas of our existence I was great for the band and I always believed we would make it. I did. Those ten years would be 72 to 82. That leaves only 83 and Roboto which he claims was how we lost part our male audience. Maybe. What we lost for certain was Tommy (guess he’s right Tommy is male)who quit to pursue a solo career. If he hadn’t we would have made another album and got those guys right back. I know because we saw them in 1996 and 97. He also said If he were in charge the band would have been very different musically. “We just wanna rock”. But that was never Styx. Sure we rocked but there was more gold to be mined. Remember the first third of Lady is a pop ballad. If JY had been bringing great rock songs to every album it would have been fantastic and they would have been on the albums but he didn’t. Sometimes he barely brought in one. In fact on our most successful Wooden Nickel record Styx ll he had none. I always believed getting the best songs on the albums was the most important thing. I’ve said this before but JY never really would have chosen to be in a band with John, Chuck, JC and me cause we weren’t heavy enough for his tastes but his own band had imploded and he was looking for work and we had the gigs. Probably because we played songs people really liked. Anyway it sure would be great if my old buddy JY would stop denigrating me and thereby the band that has given us all so very much. Its really not helpful to the Styx legacy or you our fans. For me it’s unthinkable that I would ever disparage his songs. We were in it together, a band...all for one STYX STYX STYX. Hey JY, I love ya brother and Suzanne and I wish you and Suzie all the best. Really we do. Cheers Denny

Paice, far better drummer. And so forth. Hell, Deep Purple could even drink Styx under the floor. RIP Jon Lord. A extremely under rated keyboard player. All three of them, not so much Blackmore, were very under rated. Deep Purple lead, other bands like Styx followed. Deep purple could have done so much more if they could have put egos aside.

I don't think Deep Purple or Jon Lord is underrated, I always hear him getting mentioned in best keyboardist lists. I don't really understand how this article interview have anything to do with debating the Styx vs Deep Purple match. I don't mind Deep Purple but to my ears I like Styx much more. Styx could of been much bigger as well if all the egos could of gotten along as well. Styx threw away maybe their biggest decade to shine which was the 80's.

Hey JY, I love ya brother and Suzanne and I wish you and Suzie all the best. Really we do. Cheers Denny I think it's pretty clear that JY has some real issues. I would suspect that it has more to do with envy and jealousy towards DDY. Perhaps he is upset that DDY and to a lesser extent TS overshadowed him in the group. DDY is correct in that JY never joined the group because he was interested in the music they were doing. I say this because in interviews CP has said the very same thing. DDY is correct that JY didn't bring a lot to the table when it came to song material. I believe it was TS who said at one point, "JY was the last person to bring song material to the table and what he did bring needed a lot of work to be usable". It takes a lot of balls to complain about song material when you are the least to contribute. It appears to me that a lot of the uncompromising behavior in the band was coming from JY. JY owes a lot to DDY. JY rewarded DDY by stabbing him in the back and continues to do so to this very day. If it wasn't for DDY we most likely would not have ever heard of a band called Styx. It's clear where the belief and leadership came from in the early days. It wasn't coming from JY, JC, CP nor JP. It's sad that DDY has to defend himself like this. Since his ousting, DDY has never trashed talked any of his former band mates nor disparaged the work they did together. When he has said something negative about a project or song he blames himself for it.
In my opinion if it wasn't for Dennis and Tommy, we would have never heard of a guy named James Young. His song writing abilities are average at best as evidenced by his solo projects. His guitar playing abilities are average. His playing to me always sounded formulaic. Have you noticed that since DDY's departure, JY's level of song contributions to projects has remained the same? I also remember Glenn commenting that after DDY's ousting the "issues" in the band remained the same. It just was originating from other members. One the reasons I can no longer support the band now known as Styx is because of JY's and to a lesser extent TS' trashing of DDY. It's truly sad.

I think you are right they are jealous. I know the reason you don't see Styx on TV much is because no one is interested without Dennis. The band really blew a big chance with the Fallon show a few years ago with Too Much Time on our Hands, I'm sure if Dennis was with the group they would of been on the show, that would of been huge publicity wise for them. A reunited Styx in this day in age would gather them a lot of things along these lines.

Both DDY and Tommy have had moderate success with their solo projects while JY's seemed to go nowhere.
