"But gone are original bassist Ross Valory and longtime drummer Steve Smith. Schon and Cain accused them of attempting a “corporate coup d’état” — it’s complicated — and fired them in 2020.
In their place — or rather in the place of their replacements, Randy Jackson and Narada Michael Walden — are drummer Deen Castronovo and bassist Todd Jensen. Keyboardist Jason Derlatka also joined after the split with Valory and Smith."
Pretty obvious NMW and Randy never should have been announced as official members. If anything, it actually made Narada look bad.

I find this so sad... Herbie had the Journey machine so dialed in, fan engagement was laughably BETTER than it is now, everything was coordinated, and the brand moved with purpose..
Fast forward to now.. and its all drama, social media miss-management, lack of actual management, bickering, etc.. which only serve to destroy the bands credibility... its like watching them spiral into nothing...
Ironically, future music fans will likely only remember Journey for DSB and Steve Perry, and Schon, try as he might, will simply be remembered as "one of the members."..

Neal has to continue to try and prove that it's "his" band, he's the only original member who remains, etc. Arnel, because of his life story, will be remembered more than Neal. I have no idea what the breakup with Azoff management was about, but regardless of that there are still plenty of great management companies out there that could keep the legacy in much better shape. As long as Neal stays on social media and continues to micro (or even macro) manage the band, the downhill run will continue to gain speed.

I'm beginning to wonder if Azoff got tired of the stagnation and the band doing the same thing all the time, gave them an ultimatum as far as a new direction, and Neal said "fuck you"?

Azoff might have been fine with the stagnation, they were still making good money on tours I think. I don't doubt that Neal would have told him that many times on many issues. The problem for Neal is that Azoff is the best that ever was in the game. Neal trying to run the band at the level that Azoff could is like Azoff trying to play guitar like Neal could. Everyone has things they are good at and things they are not. Neal doesn't seem to realize that he is not a genius at managing a band's business.

The judge should have thrown Neal's a$$ in jail for a couple of weeks during the tour. Make him miss a few paychecks and see if he stops this crap.
