Freedom, their first album since 2011's Eclipse, has debuted at #88. In comparison, Eclipse peaked at #13. Seems the band is back in the commercial wilderness of the Augeri years.

Being a complete legacy act without a DSB resurgance to lift it, no new album from them (or any other classic AOR band) is going to do much anymore. It's guys like us who will buy it. That's OK, we got album like we have been asking for.

That's OK, we got album like we have been asking for. Def Leppard was top 20. Alice Cooper was top 50. Good points. Several thoughts: 1) I haven't listened to either DL or AC, really only listened to DL hits over the years and couldn't name a AC song at all. Do you know if the new albums are any good compared to their historical stuff? 2) I also wonder if putting half the album out as singles on YouTube caused fans to go "Meh, if this is the best, I am not going to spend money on it". 3) I didn't know that the new album was out until I saw it here. Comparative promotion between the bands may be part of it. I would guess that AC fans are absolutely hard core. Maybe they will buy anything he puts out? DL fans similarly, though with much more broad appeal. Who knows what drives music consumption anymore for anything other than pop and country? Journey Greatest hits is still at #52 and has been on the list 721 weeks. Looks like it is the currently longest album on the list. Thriller is only 530 weeks. Herbie had a great business model for the band.

The Leps record at Joe Elliots home studio.. and he learned everything from Mutt about how to record and mix his band... they have a huge advantage over most other bands
