No one here knew them, but I have had 3 friends die in the past 2 weeks. Farmer Mike, Big Tim, and MJ. This getting old business is really beginning to get to me. Sorry about your friends passing tj. Life does seem to suck in that regard as we get older. I’ve lost a number of longtime friends and family in the last 6 years, it changes things, and not for the better. But onward we must go.

Ian McDonald, the multi-instrumentalist who was a founding member of both King Crimson and Foreigner, has died at the age of 75. McDonald’s death was confirmed via press release, which noted that the rocker “passed away peacefully on February 9, 2022 in his home in New York City, surrounded by his family.” McDonald co-founded King Crimson in 1968, alongside Robert Fripp, Michael Giles, Greg Lake and lyricist Peter Sinfield. The famed prog-rock group’s debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King, was released in 1969. McDonald’s fingerprints were all over the LP, with saxophone, flute, clarinet, Mellotron, harpsichord, piano, organ, vibraphone, backing vocals and production among his contributions. -snip- Years later, McDonald would help launch another legendary act, Foreigner. The band’s initial lineup included guitarist Mick Jones, singer Lou Gramm, drummer Dennis Elliott, keyboardist Al Greenwood and bassist Ed Gagliardi, with McDonald providing rhythm guitar, woodwinds and additional keyboard. The multi-instrumentalist’s tenure lasted until 1980 and included three hugely successful, multi-platinum LPs: Foreigner, Double Vision and Head Games. “Feels Like the First Time”, “Cold As Ice”, “Hot Blooded” and “Double Vision” are just some of the classic tracks which featured McDonald’s playing, while the rocker also co-wrote several of the band’s deeper album cuts. The sax on Foreigner’s “Long Long Way from Home” is short but killer.

The sax on Foreigner’s “Long Long Way from Home” is short but killer. I always thought it sucked that Jones dumped him and Greenwood after Head Games. Glad that he got to play some reunion shows over the past couple of years.

funny how that toxicology report got done so fast... Those usually take weeks or months in the US. Those drugs were found in a urine sample from his body. Those can be done quickly, doesn’t mean that’s what killed him but gives an idea. They said his heart was twice it’s normal size so the dude was in imminent danger every day he lived and got excited. Surprised he didn’t keel over on the drum kit in front of 200,000 people in Brazil a few days earlier.

RIP Will Smiths career..... Serves him right. I doubt that it completely burns him, but it will take at least a year or two before people are in the forgiving mood to want to deal with him again.

R.I.P. Loved Alan Whites drumming. Drummer Alan White, the longest-tenured member of Yes, died at age 72 following a "brief illness." White's family announced the news on Facebook, noting the drummer died at his Seattle-area home on May 26. "Throughout his life and six-decade career, Alan was many things to many people: a certified rock star to fans around the world; bandmate to a select few, and gentleman and friend to all who met him," they wrote.
