Autotune all over this. Sounds like shit. A half-assed argument could be made that it was used to help Arnel keep in sync with the orchestra - BUT - Jason and Deen aren't autotuned. Perry raised the bar so high with vocals. It's really a grift and an insult for the band to ever resort to trickery/help/deceit like this. What's next? Tapes?

I don't hear Autotune here... I do hear a really pitchy Arnel... same on this vid from 12/10/21
These songs are hard for him to sing now... it sounds like it takes all he has just to power through them...

The clip I posted has him turning into optimus prime every time he reaches for a high note. Sounds distractingly over processed. Listen at 1:45 - 1:46 or 2:06 - 2:07.
That ain't natural.

yea I heard those...
@ 1:45 it sounds like can't hear himself and flats the note..
@ 2:06 I don't hear it.. but the slight glissando into the correct pitch for the phrase (...ruuUUNIN down... ) that could very well have been pitch correction.. I just don't hear it.
I honestly don't think they are using pitch correction (autotune) on the mix, although it's really not that uncommon. Why? My guess is Neal is probably deathly afraid of having to own up to fucking with vocals again...
Really obvious pitch corrections sounds like the vocal is "folding".... Think Cher (Do you believe in life after love).
Vocals that are subtlety pitch corrected, as would the case when they don't want the listener to hear the correction, will have a threshold set so that pitch correction is barely used and heard... and that's why I don't think they used pitch correction here... because, listening to the whole performance, Arnel is flat and sharp... he's all over the place... and much of his pitchy-ness would have been easy to pitch correct, a lot of it without it being obvious...
I honestly just think he can't sing these songs very well anymore...

Same here... he's pitchy as fuck... 1:17 is about as flat as one can get....
there's no pitch correction here.. just s singer who can't hear himself.. and in some cases can't get the note...
Either way.. this isn't a good look for Journey... Jesus... Deen can sing this asleep.... I'm betting getting Deen back in wasn't just for his drumming...
Deen's natural vocal range is much closer to Perry's than Arnel's ever was...

I think Deen at this point is almost overrated. He has lost some of his top end since 2004. His recent attempts at Mother Father sound like a guy really pushing/forcing to hit notes at times. He chain smokes and seems to have no vocal training. Only a matter of time for him as well. As for Perryisms.....when I played a friend "A Better Life" off Generations, he mistook it for Perry. Deen def. could sound more Perryish than both SA and AP.

Neal never owned up (publicly) to anything. He told fans in private that he didn't have Augeri in his ear monitors. Jon or Ross later said Dean was an alcoholic. Nobody admitted shit. The Cher effect is exactly what I hear at certain points (like the aforementioned WYLAW at 0:44 - 0:46). YouTubers are noticing. So was someone over on MR. Will prolly become even more explicit and undeniable once the Freedom tour is underway.

It was bound to happen....
At some point Neals gonna have to go all in and just get Perry soundalikes from tribute bands...

There comes an end of the road for anyone singing this catalog, period. Frankly, AP has lasted longer than I thought he would. Although he's been referred to as "kid", he's now 54 years old and no spring chicken. The last time Perry sang on a Journey album he was younger than AP, at what 47 or 48 years old? It's not a sustainable thing. Very soon this band has a decision to make. The best we can hope for is that we get one more good album.

Perry sang on TBF at 47 years old...
I think they're "good album" days are long gone...

So, to pull it all together from what I can tell at this point:
1. Arnel is probably losing/lost the range needed to sing this catalogue well. 2. John is still out there, but doesn't understand why the last single wasn't a hit. 3. Randy Jackson hasn't been seen on tour at all. Two different bass players have filled in for him so far and there's no idea when/if he will ever show. 4. Narada has been hit and miss, more miss than hit. Deens back consistently, but not as a "member" of the band (?). 5. A new guy is mostly hidden in the back playing a casio keyboard or cueing backing tracks. 6. Neal continues to believe that the best is yet to come and we will all be in awe of the performances that we spend money to go see.
Oh, and SP continues to think about touring "all the time".
What am I missing or do I have wrong?
